    My Story

     J. M. Hopkins is a native Memphian who was probably always a writer at heart.

However, being married with a family and earning a living, being a working musician, and other real-life concerns delayed his start as an author until about three years ago, in late 2021.

Joe  was the Technical Director at the Pink Palace Museum and Planetarium for several years before moving to Florida. He worked and consulted in all areas of planetariums for the next twenty-plus years.

    He has since retired.

He also was a sought-after rock and blues lead guitarist and recording artist who played with and for many renowned musicians over the last half-century.

The Cunninghams: A Legacy of Memphis is his first novel - followed by The Cunninghams II: The Heat of Memphis, and finally by his newest - HOP.

"You’re a wonderfully talented storyteller—masterfully building suspense, gliding back and forth in time, and capturing the essence of your characters and the moments that define them. I was not surprised to learn of your musical background, as your writing has the rhythm and texture of an inspired song, with the moving crescendos and diminuendos lingering long after the song is over."

    Elizabeth D.

"I spent the whole weekend reading the Cunninghams. I couldn't put it down! Every time I felt like I was coming to a good stopping point, something new happened - I just had to read on!"

    Joanne H.
